30A – Final Reflection

Image
1) One of the highs from this past semester was when I wrote the bug's list. Quite funny is how that was in the beginning of the year but that is when I realized there are a lot of unsolved and non-perfect "things" out there! The moments of dread were the weeks of assignments plus exam week where everything felt smushed together!  2) The most formative experience was interviewing students and others! It really showed me how important is asking the right question. The one experience I do feel most accomplished was possibly my first elevator pitch, it wasn't too long, super short and sweet!  3) I don't yet consider myself as an entrepreneur but I feel that I do attain some abilities that are found in an entrepreneur after taking this course. I feel a lot more confident in being able to embrace my failures and use it towards building a path for success.  4) I would recommend students to be ready to set time aside just for this class since it is online and you ...

1)  OPPORTUNITY My product is an app that matches college students with upperclassmen in their intended or "interested" majors. It will be targeted mainly towards incoming and freshman students at the University of Florida to prevent further major changes and an insight beforehand.  My service aspires to bridge the gap between the curiosity and the unknown. The market will be defined solely on demographics than geographically due to it's portability and available access anywhere. The market would be age driven based on incoming freshman and current freshman ages, 17-18 years of age.  As of right now, customer's aren't satisfied with their questions and above all they aren't solved. Advisors are offered throughout campus however, with the huge ratio of students per advisor, advisors don't get to know their students are much so it's hard to build that connection. This is a huge opportunity, it's picking up where the lack is. Knowing that ...

28A – Your Exit Strategy

1.) I plan to branch out the business and partner up with smaller companies that can benefit from advertisement such as intern and employment recruiters looking for students within a specific major. I plan to definitely stay with the business throughout my career. I don't know if I'd pass it to my children, but I'd pass it to whoever is/will show their dedication in wanting to continuously improve a student's academic and personal career.  2.) I selected this strategy because like any choice we make, we can't simply just sell it and let it go. I mean, we can, but is it always the case? I think through this app, it can venture off into many other institutions nationwide and allow more students to incorporate their stories of success and perhaps failure! This failure will only show that there is a continuous room for improvement and immediate changes and a never-ending journey.  3.) It definitely has influenced on how I identify opportunities, specificall...

27A – Reading Reflection No. 3

How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big Scott Adams Novel 1) One of the main concepts I admired from this biography was that there's no success without the experience of failing. I know it is obvious but it can be a hard concept to understand at the moment of failure.  2) The book and ENT3003 connects through the main drive that's found in entrepreneurs. Through failure and experience, it's what keeps one running and above all, motivates you even more. It's a moment of failure that you have to fall deep down to jump back up harder. This can be seen within our own work and how our opportunity, although holding some setbacks, still holds room for improvement and it's a matter of addressing them and moving forward.  3) If I were to assign an exercise based on this book and class, it'd be having student's having to go out and fail at something on purpose. The reason being is because it's hard to fail, it happens without expecting it a...

26A – Celebrating Failure

1. Just last week, I forgot my lab manual for my lab course for a first after several weeks of routine. 2. I learned that I should stick to my routine of packing the night before! I usually pack my backpack the night before with what I only need. I trusted myself on remembering the next morning which failed. I failed myself! I realized that if there is an opportunity to prep, take it and don't question it.  3. Failure in general is an opportunity to change. If you can acknowledge it then you've already taken the first step. In the past, I've made several mistakes but I've learned to view them as mistakes that needed to happen. For starters, it makes me feel a little better but it also gets me motivated to see where the change needs to happen. This course showed me through the stories of successful entrepreneurs, students, and myself that failure is ok, it happens to everyone, some most hard than others. I think this past semester alone, I've taken more risks ...

25A – What’s Next?

What you need to do.   Existing Market.  Step 1:  The next step would be to start recruiting the successful upperclassmen in each major offered at UF.  Step 2:  Axel Rodriguez, Sophomore, Anthropology "I wish this really would exist right now. I switched my major for the third time now and I mean huge changes. I went from Computer Science to Biology on the Nursing track to Anthropology and even then I don't know if this is what I want. I like the classes, they seem cool but I don't know if I'm really into it you know? I think the next step for you is finding the successful students who had that major we may have questions on. What's the point of asking someone who only just takes classes and doesn't do more for their major?"  Justin Cho, Sophomore, Telecommunication Productions "I think you should really look at who these students are, if they're graduate, they may not even bother since they're all living their silicon valley ...

24A – Venture Concept No. 1

OPPORTUNITY My product is a mobile application for matching students with upperclassmen in prospective majors. This app will be specifically for the incoming students and current students at the University of Florida who feel undecided or want to know more information of specific majors. As many students take college level courses while in high school, they don't know exactly what they would like to pursue so they go straight into the major-focused courses once they declare a major that sounds "nice". My service aspires to bridge the gap between the curiosity and the unknown. The market isn't defined geographically since it is a mobile application, the portability allows access wherever, whenever. Demographically, the market would be defined by age range and experience range such as these students all as incoming freshmen, freshmen, or sophomores, and some juniors (rare case scenarios).  Currently, customers aren't satisfied as many of their questions is ans...

22A – Elevator Pitch No. 3

1) https://youtu.be/cJIXhs1w_iQ 2) The most important part from my feedback was including that voice into my message and using less amount of "words" to describe what I need to say.  3) I definitely shortened my pitch into something direct and to the point! I feel a lot more comfortable around the camera and its also engraved in my head for now!

23A – Your Venture’s Unfair Advantage

1. Ability to network with upperclassmen who have been successful in their majors. Valuable: This is the main ingredient in my service as the app will be based around these upperclassmen's experience. Rare: I think it's not rare to be able to find the right upperclassmen but it can be challenging.  Imitable: I think anybody has the possibility to be able to network with the upperclassmen! Non-substitutable: I don't think this could be substituted because networking is essential and nothing can substitute it. 2. Ability to understand student's choosing a major dilemma. Valuable : It's valuable because I can understand students who have second thoughts on their major or even are interested in a new major.  Rare: I think it's not rare exactly but it is hard to find students who are 100% committed and KNOW what they want from the start.  Imitable: I think it's imitable to be able to understand students who have trouble deciding on a major si...

21A

1.What I got out of the reading was that it focused a lot on the mind of others including ourselves. When it comes to our talents and our abilities as people, it leans understanding and conflict towards our actions and how we can learn from them. I really like how I chose to talk and read this book, definitely opened my perspective on the growth of the mind. 2.What I have learned about ENT3003 is the it focuses not only on the mind and our physical abilities, but it focuses a lot on what we can do to apply our mental abilities towards our actions. I think that this book truly reflects of this class due to the major thinking and correction from our mistakes when it comes to entrepreneurship and mindset growth. 3.From this book, I think that a really helpful activity that will help promote mindset growth is to do things that we have never done before. The true experience in a growth in mindset is to do something that is out of the ordinary. 4.I really enjoyed this book and I definitel...

20A – Growing Your Social Capital

1) One person must be a domain expert in your industry.   Christopher Juajor, 4th year Computer Science major "This app is definitely possible, the only hardest thing personally would be finding the right experienced undergraduates but I'm sure you'll be able to find them! You have a handful of computer science majors just waiting to use their coding skills to do projects like these, I'll help!" 2) One person must be an expert on your market. Justin Kellen, 3rd year Software Engineering major "I've worked for LinkedIn last summer and they have nowhere in mind to have such a service like this. I think this is really cool. LinkedIn works in networking with employers but for students who ALREADY know what they want to do. What about those who don't know? Really leaves them out of the loop." 3) One person must be an important supplier to your industry.   Helena Rodriguez, Willow Tree representative "I think your idea is very spl...

19A – Idea Napkin No. 2

1)  You.  Throughout my college experience, networking is the reason I am where I am today. This skill is what has offered and kept opening more doors not just for myself but even to my peers. My aspirations are to one day become a Pediatrician. With this business concept, it is through networking that has reinforced my passion and interest in medicine along with child development. I see this business playing a role in my life knowing that I can make a difference in someone's life with the touch of a button.  2)  What are you offering to customers?  The Match, a one-time purchase app, will bridge the gap and serve as a prevention method towards extra costs for undecided students in their majors. This app will serve to showcase all the different majors through experienced undergraduates in that major which will also serve towards connecting them with possible "mentors".  3)  Who are you offering it to? This app would be available and ope...

16A –What’s Your Secret Sauce?

1. I think some characteristics that can incorporate into my human capital are my: Open-Mindedness: Growing up in South Florida, I was engaged in a diverse community where I've been able to understand these differences and the power it can have. As well, as alumni of public education, I have been able to understand the importance of an integrated community of students from different socioeconomic backgrounds.  Training: I have a technical certification in Office Administration Assistance. I've worked with children since my freshman year of high school from supervising a summer daycare to supervising an outreach reading program for at-risk youth to shadowing my pediatrician to tutoring at my previous job. I feel that through this experience, I've been able to understand much clearer the feeling of pressure that many young adults will face when it comes time to choose their major.  Networking : As the social media does offer a platform for a variety of reasons,...

17A – Elevator Pitch No. 2

1.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2erfof_dGA 2)  From my last pitch, I definitely added more voice as well and crunched up my information in a more deliverable manner. The most important part that stood out to me was knowing how to engage my customers through a common interest/relation.  3) I definitely spoke much more loudly and cut off unnecessary information that wasn't needed when speaking. I added a name to my product to give a platform to continue building on.

15A – Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 2

1) Interviews conducted:  Sophomore, Business Administration Junior, Neuroscience, Pre-Med Track Freshman, Nutrition Major, Pre-Pharm Track 3) After the interviews conducted, quality was the overall important leading factor into knowing whether or not this would be worth their time. Price was another factor but was only mentioned by two interviewees but only asked if there were outrageous fees, and there wouldn't be any. Quantity is another factor such as dealing with how many resources are there per major in order to fully get a glimpse of what the majors would entitle.  4) The opportunity would be an application where it'll be portable and easily accessible to all students and incoming students with a one-time fee.   5) They want to know that what they're paying for is what they'll get. They want to be sure when deciding on their major and for sure will want to be sure when deciding whether or not to invest a little into their decision. Pressure f...

14A – Halfway Reflection

Image
1)  Definitely, determination plays a part in being able to stay motivated and watch all lectures. The course is very straightforward but requires some critical thinking into your ideas when incorporating it into your blog. To keep up with the requirements, I try my best to not leave it until the last minute when completing my assignments due on Sunday and try to finish it all on Friday.  2) There have been many moments where I felt like giving up but putting my grade at risk was like a slap in the face for a wake-up call and I'd get motivated once more to do my work. This isn't just applicable for this class but in general, you or someone (through scholarships) have paid for this class, a four credit course, not even three and not doing your work is definitely a no-no. I've developed a more disciplined attitude in this course after this experience.  3) 1. Be honest about your goals and don't be afraid to be confident with them. 2. To be ten...

13A - Reading Reflection No. 1

1) The Entrepreneur: Grinding It Out - The Making of McDonald's What surprised you the most? Something that surprised me the most was that he didn't have the greatest education nor high earning job to be a billionaire. Kroc's ambition and confidence led him towards being able to work in the partnership then buying off McDonald's from the McDonald's brothers later expanding it worldwide. What about the entrepreneur did you most admire? I admire his persistence. He doesn't stop, he didn't stop and his legacy continues on. He had millions of ideas and millions of those ideas turned down, yet later on, he's making billions. Upon his fast-food company, he remained to his values in the courtesy, cleanliness, and service of the company. What about the entrepreneur did you least admire? Along with determination, he was ambitious to the point that he could be labeled as a shark. He seemed to have taken advantage of the McDonald's brothers but it ...

12A – Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1

1) Pick a segment. The segment I will use is the University of Florida campus in Gainesville to be my first segment to start. 2) Find three people who would fit that segment and arrange to interview them. I conducted an interview with a student from 3 different majors who all have switched their major AT LEAST TWICE.  3) Begin with need awareness. The three interviewees all stated the feeling of "pressure" when declaring on a major. This pressure is what leads them towards choosing a major because the first one doesn't work out so "why not" try out a new one without even knowing if they have an interest in it.  4) Move to information research. They all mentioned the app would be a huge benefit and wish it existed before they even entered their freshman year. One student, a junior, mentioned if it could have the option to audit a class without having to officially audit the class to "test" out a course since the add/drop ...
